ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Henderson County authorities have taken to social media to remind people some area roads remain closed.
According to a Facebook post Thursday, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said the roads going into Bat Cave and Gerton are still closed.
“And by ‘closed,’ we don’t mean ‘closed-ish’ or ‘closed unless you’re really curious.’ We mean CLOSED — as in only local traffic and authorized personnel (utility crews, construction workers, first responders, etc.) are allowed beyond those big ol’ ‘ROAD CLOSED’ signs,” the post said. “If you drive past them without proper authorization, you’re not going on a scenic adventure—you’re heading toward criminal charges.”
The sheriff’s office issued another warning.
“AND for those who are allowed to be in the area: the temporary red lights placed by DOT in the roadway? Yeah, those aren’t suggestions. They are enforceable by law, so please don’t treat them like optional mood lighting,” the post said.
The following roads remain closed:
- Chimney Rock Road at Slick Rock
- Grant Mountain
- Bearwallow Mountain Road
- N.C. 9
- U.S. 74 (Gerton Hwy) at Bearwallow Mountain
- U.S. 74 at the Henderson/Rutherford County line
