ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department has arrested and charged a man for public masturbation in West Asheville, marking the offender’s second charge for the same crime in the same park.
APD officers came across Sergii Iefimenko, 63, around 6 p.m., Thursday, May 22, at Carrier Park along the 200 block of Amboy Road.
Iefimenko was reported to APD for public indecency near a running path in the park. A nearby witness was able to identify his location, leading to APD taking a still-exposed Iefimenko into custody without incident.
His latest arrest follows a conviction 16 years earlier for the same crime. On March 9, 2009, Iefimenko was also arrested for indecent exposure at Carrier Park.
According to APD Public Information Officer Rick Rice, officers took Iefimenko into custody within yards of his last arrest. APD has initiated the City of Asheville park ban process for the offender.
Iefimenko was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on a $2,500 secured bond issued by a magistrate.
