ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The 20th annual Asheville Humane Society “Dine to Be Kind” week has begun.

Typically, the yearly event sees dozens of Asheville-area restaurants partner with Asheville Humane. This year, the event will run from Tuesday, April 1 to Sunday, April 6.

During “Dine to Be Kind” week, participating restaurants donate a percentage of their proceeds to the animal care organization “to help ensure that local animals in need have access to live-saving programs and a quality of life worth living,” explained Asheville Humane communication manager Caroline Dougherty in a press release.

However, due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene on the Asheville food industry, this year Asheville Humane is focusing on bringing attention to the restaurants and animals in need during “Dine to Be Kind.”

“Rather than our partner restaurants donating a percentage of their profits for one day to Asheville Humane Society, we’re taking the opportunity to boost the visibility of our Dine to Be Kind family and ask the community to come out and support them as they continue to rebuild,” wrote Dougherty. “We’ve shown that resilience is about more than just weathering storms–it’s about growing back better and stronger.”

The list of participating restaurants and their hours can be found on the Asheville Humane website.

Every Wednesday, 828newsNOW spotlights an adoptable animal from Asheville Humane. Be sure to look for our “Pet Connection” series to meet your next furry friend, like Maui and Mr. Wernstrom.
