ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Former President Donald Trump has a rally planned for Wednesday in downtown Asheville. Here’s what you need to know about road closures, service interruptions and parking.
Trump’s campaign event is set for 4 p.m. at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville on Haywood Street. Doors will open at 1 p.m.
According to the city of Asheville, the following roads will be closed beginning at noon Tuesday, Aug. 13:
- Haywood Street from Battery Park Avenue to O’Henry Avenue
- Page Avenue from Haywood Street to Battle Square
- Walnut Street from Haywood Street to Rankin Avenue
- Hiawassee Street from Flint Street to N. Lexington Avenue
- Flint Street from Haywood Street to Cherry Street
- Vanderbilt Place
All roads are anticipated to reopen about 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Parking availability
All city-owned parking garages will be open throughout the event. Please note the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville garage will be open with entry and exit access only from Rankin Avenue. Additionally, the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville garage, Rankin garage and Wall Street garage will initiate event parking rates at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.
The following on-street parking locations will be closed beginning the evening of Aug. 12:
- Haywood Street between Battery Park and Page Avenue.
- Page Avenue. between Haywood Street and Battle Square
- Hiawassee Street
- Vanderbilt Place
- W. Walnut Street
Vehicles remaining in these closed parking spaces after 9 a.m Tuesday, Aug. 13 will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Bus routes
Routes N3 and N4 will be detoured from 5 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, until midnight Wednesday, Aug. 14. The following stops will be missed: 881, 974, 973,975, 963, 787.

Sanitation services
There will be no trash or recycling collection on Wednesday, Aug. 14. All community members and businesses are asked to place bins out by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, and sanitation trucks will collect trash and recycling between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
On-going project impacts
The night closures of Patton Avenue previously scheduled for the Carter Ann Patton Stormwater project have been postponed to Monday, Aug. 19, and Tuesday, Aug, 20.
“As with all events at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville, public safety will be a top priority for all people engaged with the event. The Emergency Operations Center has been activated to provide the best communication and coordination in and around the event. Extensive public safety preparation and planning has taken place between local, state and federal agencies and coordination will continue through the end of the event,” a news release from the city said.
“We encourage our community to treat each other with respect. Adherence to all applicable laws and regulations will support individuals’ rights to safely practice their right to free speech.”

Library closed
Pack Memorial Library will be closed all day Wednesday because of the rally. The county’s 11 other library branches will operate on a regular schedule. Find hours and locations here. Pack Memorial Library will operate on a regular schedule on Tuesday, Aug. 13, but patrons looking to access the library and its programs are encouraged to plan additional time for parking as some road closures will begin that day.
Other interruptions
All other county operations will be on a regular schedule Wednesday, Aug. 14. Community members using county services downtown may want to plan additional time because of increased traffic and road closures. Individuals who are scheduled for appointments with the ID Bureau on Wednesday are encouraged to call 828-250-4682 to reschedule.
