WAYNESVILLE – Robert Lawrence Fisher, age 85, passed away on June 9, 2024. Robert was under Hospice Care through Four Seasons Hospice and passed away at home.

Robert was a lifelong resident of Waynesville and was the son of the late Lawerence and Lizzie Fisher of the Fines Creek community.

In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris.  He is also preceded in death by his brothers Floyd (Dorotha), Daniel (Maude), and Henry as well as sisters Minnie Fish (Goal), Mary Mauck (Bud), Lura Fish (Floyd), Hester Holland (Leroy), and Martha Benfield (Leroy). Granddaughter Taylor also preceded Robert in passing.

Robert is survived by his sister Hazel Mathis (Troy, deceased) and his brother Crawford.  Robert has three surviving sons that he and Doris proudly raised. The three sons are Daryl (Kim), Eric (Angelina, deceased), and Brian (Angie).

Robert is further survived by three grandchildren, Parker, Ryan (Julia), and Stephanie (Jeffrey), as well as two great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Jayden. Robert had many family members and extended family members including numerous nieces and nephews with spouses and children.

Robert was a police officer by trade and retired as the Assistant Chief of the Waynesville Police Department in 1994.  Prior to becoming a police officer in 1970, Robert was a long-haul truck driver as well as a dump truck driver.  Robert often joked there was not a vehicle made that he could not drive.

After retirement, Robert and Doris chose RV camping for recreation and spent many good days at campgrounds in Sevierville and Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

A Celebration of Life for Robert will be held at Ninevah Baptist Church, where he and Doris were members for years. The service will be held on June 21, 2024, at 11:00 am. The address is 931 Country Club Drive in Waynesville, NC 28786. The family will fellowship immediately following the service in the Church’s Fellowship Hall. Pastor Mike Leslie will officiate and be assisted by Reverend Charles Robertson.
