WOODFIN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Residents along Weaverville Highway in Woodfin had low to no water pressure Thursday after a water main break, officials said.

The Woodfin Water District said the outage affects customers from Blackstone Avenue to the Interstate 26 intersection, as well as Mills Place and Audubon Drive, and that there is no estimated time for restoration.

The break is the second in the area this week, affecting residents and businesses in Woodfin and North Asheville.

On Tuesday, a separate break along Merrimon Avenue near Mills Place and Midland Drive caused widespread outages. Crews repaired a six-inch transmission main after discovering a significant leak, but a second break developed later that day, requiring additional excavation.

According to the water district, the earlier repair was complicated by nearby fiber-optic cables and a natural gas line positioned close to the pipe, limiting access and slowing repairs. Crews also had to shut down a larger section of the system because of a lack of valves to isolate the break.

Water service from Tuesday’s incident was restored late that night after hours of work.

Officials have not said what caused Thursday’s break or when service will be restored.
