ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Buncombe County.

The warning was issued about 2:23 p.m. when a severe thunderstorm was reported 8 miles northeast of downtown Asheville. According to the National Weather Service, the storm was nearly stationary and could have 60 mph wind gusts and nickel-size hail.

Impacted locations are expected to include downtown Asheville, East Asheville, West Asheville, North Asheville, Weaverville, Blue Ridge Parkway-East Asheville to Craggy Gardens, UNC Asheville, Warren Wilson College, Blue Ridge Parkway-North Carolina Arboretum to East Asheville and Barnardsville.

Damage to trees and power lines is possible.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for east central Transylvania County. At 2:36 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located 4 miles east of Brevard near Dupont State Forest.

Areas expected to be impacted include Dupont State Forest, Little River, Cedar Mountain and Penrose.

Both warnings expire at 3:30 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has also been issued for central Henderson County until 4 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm was located near Hendersonville, or over Mountain Home, moving south at 5 mph.

The storm is expected to impact such locations as Hendersonville, Mills River, Flat Rock, Mountain Home, Laurel Park, Valley Hill, Dana, Horse Shoe, Crab Creek and East Flat Rock.
