(828newsNOW) — Four days since a deadly officer-involved shooting in Henderson County, the sheriff’s office still is keeping mum on details related to the investigation.

In a press release late Wednesday afternoon, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said it expects to release more information next week about a fatal shooting on North Mills River Road involving deputies.

“In order to preserve the integrity of this ongoing investigation and ensure its unimpeded progress, the Sheriff’s Office will NOT be releasing any additional details until the upcoming statement from Sheriff (Lowell) Griffin,” the release said.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office identified the victim as Hayden Elias Brook, 29, of Tennessee, saying he died at the scene of the April 13 shooting. The case has been turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

The sheriff’s office said the forthcoming statement from Griffin will be directly shared with the public on official social media platforms as well as through the HCSO Mobile App. No news conference was mentioned in Wednesday’s statement. Authorities did not mention a specific day for the release of information.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and support as we continue to work diligently on this matter. Our commitment to maintaining public trust and ensuring justice is unwavering,” Wednesday’s news release said.

According to a release over the weekend, Henderson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a person with a gun threatening people at the North Mills River Campground about 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13. The person reportedly fled the area in a van with deputies in pursuit. Deputies said the suspect crashed and then began firing at them. They returned fire.

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office posted Wednesday’s news release on Facebook under a colorful “IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!” graphic. Unlike many other recent postings, comments were disabled.

In response to questions from 828newsNOW, SBI Public Information Director Anjanette Grube said in an email on Wednesday night: “Our investigation remains ongoing. Once we complete it, the case file will be submitted to the DA for review. The DA will determine whether criminal charges are appropriate, not the SBI. I do not have a timeframe for how long an investigation may take as there are too many variables that differ from one investigation to the next.”
