ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —
Police are investigating the 20th shooting in the city this year after a man was shot and injured Monday afternoon on Haywood Road and then drove himself to Mission Hospital for treatment, the Asheville Police Department reported.
According to a press release, officers were called to the hospital about 3:22 p.m. Monday, June 24, for a report of a gunshot victim. The man, whose identity was not released, had a bullet hole through the right arm and injuries to the abdomen, police said.
The victim reportedly told police the shooting had occurred on Haywood Road and then he drove himself to the hospital. Outside the emergency room, officers found a grey 2003 Dodge Ram truck with damage from a bullet hole through the windshield, the release states.
Detectives were asking anyone who saw a vehicle fitting that description on Monday afternoon, or anyone with other information on the incident, to contact the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110. According to police, since the start of 2024, the department has responded to 211 calls reporting shots fired or someone being shot, including 20 cases of people being shot in Asheville.
