ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police are investigating a shooting incident in which multiple rounds were fired into an occupied east Asheville apartment late Tuesday night.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 11:53 p.m. on June 24 at an apartment complex on Future Drive. When they arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene.
Police discovered an apartment had been struck by bullets and contacted the occupants, who included a young child, according to a news release from the Asheville Police Department. Officers found damage to a wall, a kitchen cabinet and a second-story window. Outside the residence, police recovered 20 shell casings directly in front of the unit.
No injuries were reported.
This marks the second shooting incident in the same neighborhood this month, Asheville police said. The first occurred on June 15.
Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation and are emphasizing the importance of community safety, especially with increased outdoor activity during the summer.
