ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville City Council has postponed three public hearings on development issues that had been expected to take place next week, including consideration of a 95-unit subdivision at 767 New Haw Creek Road, along with cottage development and flag lot standards.

Those issues are being continued to 5 p.m. June 11.

Next week’s council meeting still is expected to be a busy one, including a public hearing on creation of a downtown Business Improvement District, along with a 22-item consent agenda, a resolution allocating Housing Trust Funds to specific affordable housing projects and more.

The “Meadows at Haw Creek” project is expected to draw a crowd when it finally gets it public hearing. The Haw Creek Community Association and other area residents have raised concerns over the project’s density, impact on the area’s tree canopy and wildlife habitat, traffic, public safety issues and more.

Last week, members of the association met with developer Kevin Jackson in hopes of negotiating a compromise plan that might lessen some of the concerns over the project’s density and other issues. They remain far apart, an association representative said.
