ALEXANDER, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Emergency slope repairs have started along Alexander Road in Leicester, where part of a roadside bank near a double-wide mobile home is reportedly starting to collapse.

The work is taking place near the end of Alexander Road, just before the former French Broad School. According to a state employee familiar with the project, the collapsing slope has raised safety concerns, prompting an estimated 7-to-9-day construction effort.

Temporary traffic signals have been installed, and officials say drivers should expect periodic full closures of the road.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Mag Sluder Road to Jenkins Valley Road to avoid the area. A previous attempt to address the issue weeks ago led to traffic congestion in the area, one social media post said.
