ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Snow fell intermittently across the North Carolina mountains Sunday and was expected to continue overnight into Monday morning, prompting several school districts to shift to remote learning.

Forecasters said the highest accumulations were expected at elevations above 3,000 feet, with lighter amounts in lower-lying areas.

In response to the winter weather, multiple districts announced schedule changes for Monday:

  • Avery County Schools: Remote learning day
  • Madison County Schools: Remote learning day/optional teacher workday
  • Mayland Community College: Remote learning day
  • Mitchell County Schools: Remote learning day for students/optional teacher workday
  • Yancey County Schools: Remote learning day
