Names, counties of state’s 104 confirmed Helene victims released

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — When Hurricane Helene moved toward the mountains after making landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm on Sept. 26, Asheville area residents had no idea the death and devastation that was coming.

Now, more than three months after the remnants of Hurricane Helene roared through the area on Sept. 27, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has released the names of the 104 state residents killed by the storm. The majority of fatalities were from Buncombe County.
