ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Parks & Recreation is inviting adults to lace up their sneakers and return to the hardwood with its Over 40 Basketball League, offering a fun and competitive environment for those looking to revive their love for the game.
Registration is open through Aug. 8 at avlrec.com. The eight-game season begins Aug. 19, with games held Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center. The cost to participate is $60 per player.
Organizers say the league is designed for former high school standouts, playground regulars and anyone over 40 with a competitive spirit and a passion for basketball. Teams will be formed based on height, position and skill level to ensure fair play and balanced matchups.
“Forget the endless drills and grueling practices. We’re all about the love of the game,” Asheville Parks & Recreation said in a statement. “This is more than just a league; it’s a community. It’s an opportunity to connect with fellow basketball enthusiasts, get a great workout, and create some new highlight-reel moments. Whether you’re looking to make a comeback or just enjoy the camaraderie of the court, we’ve got a spot for you.”
Each team will play one game per week, and the season will culminate in a single-elimination playoff. League officials emphasize that beyond the scoreboard, the program aims to build community among participants.
