ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County was closed Saturday because of Winter Storm Cora. Cl;osures included parks, libraries, landfill, transfer station and community care stations.

Road conditions are dangerous, and travel is highly discouraged, county officials said in a news release.

FCC Environmental trucks will be unable to complete solid waste and recycling routes — customers will receive additional information ahead of next week’s scheduled collections, according to the news release.

All FEMA Helene Disaster Recovery Centers in North Carolina will be closed Saturday but are expected to reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13.

Because of slippery road conditions and the forecasted low temperatures, Asheville Parks & Recreation community centers will remain closed and programs will be canceled for the weekend, according to the city’s website.

While most parks and greenways are open, community members are advised to be aware of fallen trees, excessive limbs and debris, icy patches, and other hazards. For a list of closed parks and greenways, click here.

ART bus services will be suspended until noon Sunday. After noon, routes will resume the regular Sunday schedule.

All Henderson County Library Branches are closed Saturday. All activities for Parks & Recreation have been canceled. Youth basketball has been rescheduled to Saturday, Jan. 18.

FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will reopen Monday, Jan. 13 with regular operational hours.

Hendersonville officials urged sresidents to remove their cars from the streets so crews can remove snow. Crews will continue around-the-clock snow clearing on primary and secondary city roads along with the downtown business districts.

Trash and recycling collection may be delayed in some areas because snow-covered and icy roads. Residents are asked to follow the regular collection schedule and leave trash and recycling at curbside. But do not place cans where they would hinder snow removal crews. If conditions restrict access, crews will collect as soon as conditions improve.
