ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Another round of strong storms is expected to move through Western North Carolina on Thursday afternoon, bringing the risk of damaging wind gusts, isolated flash flooding and small hail, according to local meteorologists and the National Weather Service.
Storm activity is forecast between 2 and 8 p.m., although exact timing remains uncertain because of the unpredictable nature of pop-up storms.
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg said damaging wind gusts are the primary hazard, with localized flooding also possible in areas with poor drainage or low-lying terrain. Storms may also produce frequent lightning, which can strike up to 10 miles from the storm’s core.

The unsettled weather is expected to continue through the weekend, with daily chances for thunderstorms. Temperatures are also forecast to climb as an upper-level ridge builds across the region early next week.
Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and take shelter when thunder is heard.
