ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A youth literacy project, summer school programs, school nutrition and special needs transportation will benefit from $237,000 of Strategic Partnership Grants the Asheville City Council awarded on Tuesday night.
Since 2022, the Strategic Partnership Grant program has awarded just over $1 million to 21 programs in an effort to address the opportunity gap for low- to moderate-income children.
This year, 21 applications were reviewed, and selections were based in part on an applicant’s ability to track and measure results, the City of Asheville’s Community & Public Engagement Department said in a release. Recommendations were made by the city’s Equity and Engagement Committee and then were approved unanimously by the City Council on Tuesday.
Receiving funding in this, the fourth round of funding:
* PODS, Inc., $67,859 for Food Security Enhances Learning
* Literacy Together, $35,000 for youth literacy programs
* The Arc of Buncombe County, $35,000 to bolster transportation for the I/DD community
* Horizons at Carolina Day, $35,000 for Summer Enrichment Program expansion
* Serve to LEAD, $64,141 for a Youthful H.A.N.D. Summer Jump Start program
