ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — In acknowledgment of the one year anniversary of Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact on Western North Carolina, Asheville craft soda company Devil’s Foot Beverage has united with the Charlotte-based NoDa Brewing Company to produce a new sparkling water in support of a local nonprofit.
The new release, Stronger Through Water, is a blackberry sparkling water created as a tribute to the generosity that sustained the Asheville community in the aftermath of Helene. A portion of the proceeds from the drink will go to Asheville GreenWorks, a nonprofit dedicated to environmental education and conservation.
Stronger through sparkling water
“This will be our first ever sparkling water, created to pay tribute to all the canned water Noda Brewing canned/collected and brought to us after the storm,” wrote Devil’s Foot Lead Story Teller Katie Smith in an email.
According to a Devil’s Foot press release, NoDa Brewing delivered truckloads of canned water to the Devil’s Foot taproom, The Mule, which became a distribution hub of resources for the community.
“Thanks to NoDa and the outpouring of support from others in the beverage industry, Devil’s Foot and other local businesses were able to receive and distribute more than 16,000 gallons of clean drinking water in just a matter of days — a lifeline for neighbors across the region,” Devil’s Foot wrote in the release.
“In those first days after the storm, when we had no phones, electricity or water, seeing those trucks from NoDa pull up to The Mule with clean drinking water was overwhelming,” said Ben Colvin, CEO of Devil’s Foot Beverage, in the release. “Unknown to us, our friends in Charlotte had been canning water as soon as they saw Helene’s impact, and with the help of the wider beverage community we were able to get thousands of gallons of water to the people who needed it most – literally dropping pallets of water cans on street corners and apartment complexes. Stronger Through Water is our way of honoring our friends and colleagues while giving back to our community that continues to rebuild.”
Other Devil’s Foot benefit beverages
The release of Stronger Through Water follows the announcement of Sparkling Blackberry Blueberry Lemonade, another benefit beverage produced in collaboration with Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ in support of their Linked4Life initiative, a program designed to provide mental health resources to Asheville food and drink workers.
