ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Buncombe County Parks & Recreation and the Friends of Grovemont Park are teaming up to host the inaugural Swannanoa Family Fest on Saturday, June 7.
The free community event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Grovemont Park and will feature live music, creative activities and entertainment for all ages.
“Swannanoa Family Fest is more than just a fun day in the park,” event organizer Marianne Rogers said in a news release. “It’s a celebration of the spirit that makes our community so special. We love seeing families come together, neighbors connecting and kids trying something new. There’s truly something here for everyone.”
Festivalgoers can enjoy face painting, arts and crafts, food trucks and a firetruck display presented by Swannanoa Fire Rescue. Additional hands-on activities and exhibits will be offered by local organizations, including the Swannanoa Library, Verner Center for Early Learning, Morning Explorers, Appalachian Pen Pals and Resources for Resilience.
The Grovemont Park Garden Club will also be on hand for a meet-and-greet.
Performance schedule
- 11:15 a.m. -noon: Moon Water, a mother-daughter Americana duo
- 12:45-1:15 p.m.: Asheville Creative Arts’ Slug & Snail Puppet Show, a heartwarming show for children ages 2-8 that celebrates resilience, friendship, and community
- 2:15-3 p.m.: Bilingual Birdies Asheville, language learning through movement and music

Attendees are encouraged to carpool or walk if local, as parking is limited. Approved lots include:
- Swannanoa Library
- Grovemont Park
- Swannanoa Christian Church
- St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church
