Folks looking for live street music in Buncombe County this week are in luck.
There are separate events called “Music on Main” happening Friday night in Hendersonville and Saturday night in Weaverville.
Hendersonville will be first with the latest in a summer series of free outdoor concerts.
From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 14, at the stage on S Main St., the “one man band” Tom Brown will be performing.
Music is not the only attraction on Main Friday night.
“We have a wonderful stage, great music. People show up for that,” said Gary Teeter of the Carolina Mountain Car Club. “We line two blocks with cars. We attract car people, they attract music people, and they mix together.”
“All this community connection helps bring more people and attract more people to the arts,” said Mel Ailiff, executive director of the Hendersonville Arts Council. “It’s still a relatively new event for us, but it fits our goal of supporting all the arts.”
That goal is reflected in Weaverville.
Once a year in mid-June, the Weaverville Business Association puts on its free “Music on Main” event. The event occurs 3:30 to 9 p.m., Saturday, June 15, outside Weaverville Town Hall.
At 4 p.m. Ben Balmer will perform, followed by Asheville Second Line at 6:10 p.m. and closing with Queen Bee and the Honeylovers at 7 p.m.
This year’s Music on Main sees the introduction of a conditional social district to Weaverville. Audiences may move freely with food and alcoholic beverages from restaurants inside the district for the duration of the event.
“The participation of the restaurants here, it’s very much Weaverville. Weaverville community,” said event founder Cindy Ward.
The restaurant Twisted Laurel will have a “food court” set up at the north end of the district. Restaurants like Main Street Grill and Maggie B’s also will be open.
