ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Three separate car crashes occurred this morning near Captain Jeff Bowen Bridge along Patton Avenue just outside of downtown Asheville.

According to Samantha Booth, public relations manager for the Asheville Police Department, two crashes occurred on Bowen Bridge itself.

The first crash occurred between just before 7 a.m. Three cars were headed westbound on Bowen Bridge and crashed, resulting in property damage without injury.

The second crash followed shortly afterward when two vehicles crashed around 7:14 a.m. headed eastbound on Bowen Bridge. The crash resulted in injury.

The call notes for both crashes indicated that ice may have played a role in the collisions.

Westbound lanes were closed until around 8:35 a.m. but both east and west lanes are open and running smoothly now.

The third crash happened after the lanes reopened when one vehicle rear-ended another, resulting in further property damage.

I urge anyone commuting to slow down and allow extra travel time this morning,” Booth said. “With lingering cold temperatures and overnight snowfall, slick spots may still be present.”
