ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — There is rain on the forecast this week as the first day of fall arrives.
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg says that the Asheville area will see consistent rainfall through Wednesday before tapering off into a sunny first weekend of autumn.
Temperature highs will drop from the 80s of last week into the mid to lower 70s this week, with the lowest at 68 degrees.
Lows, meanwhile, continue to drop, with a 48 degree low predicted by Saturday, Sept. 26.
Today, there is a chance of thunderstorms before 3 p.m., with likely showers and a possible thunderstorm from 3-5 p.m. and a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m.
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the autumn equinox, there will a 90% chance of rain during the day and 70% at night, with predicted new rainfall between a tenth and quarter of an inch.
On Wednesday, there will be an 80% chance of rain, with a possible thunderstorm after 2 p.m. and again before 2 a.m.
On Thursday, rains subside to a mostly cloudy day, before sunny days on Friday and Saturday.
