ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Tourists notched their third victory in a row over the Winston-Salem Dash — a 2-0 finish Thursday night at McCormick Field.
The Tourists (25-29) have allowed just eight runs through the first four games of June. Earning its fourth shutout of the year, Asheville struck out 10 Dash (18-36) batters, allowing just five hits on the night.
Brett Gillis (W, 3-1) continues to impress at the High-A level. He went five scoreless innings in the start and has a 2.45 ERA on the season.
Facing 10 batters in three innings, Julio Rodriguez dominated on the bump, fanning three and allowing just one walk. Shutting down the ninth, Amilcar Chirinos (Sv, 4) struck out two and stranded the tying run on first.
A walk broke the ice in the third inning, when Alejandro Nunez scored Drew Vogel and picked up an RBI. In the sixth, Vogel laced his second double of the game off the right field wall to plate the final run of the affair.
Asheville still has an outside chance of chasing down the top seed in the South Atlantic League South Division as the first half of the year nears its end.
Battling in front of a sold-out crowd, the Tourists will take the field as the Snot Otters on Friday against the Dash. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
