Candler – Carroll Tracy Horton 85, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
Born and raised in Asheville, Tracy joined the military after graduating from Lee Edwards High School. He honorably served as military police in the Air Force for over twenty years, gaining the rank of master sergeant upon retirement. He was stationed in numerous places including Turkey and England, and several places in the United States.
After his service in the Air Force, Tracy returned home with his family. He graduated from AB Tech and began his second career as an accountant at the VA Medical Center until retirement. He loved to travel with family and friends, especially to historical and military sites. He was a devoted member of Westwood Baptist church for 45 years and served as a leader, choir member and a deacon. Along with his love of travel and family he was an avid reader and history buff.
He is survived by his daughters Michelle Pittman (Keith) and Nichole Adams; sister Ann Hunsucker; brother William Horton; Grandchildren Zachary Coltharp, Andrew Pittman (Samantha), and Olivia Adams; great-grandchildren Justin Coltharp, Carson Coltharp, Sawyer Coltharp, Laylah Parnell, Drake Purcell, Serenity Purcell, Clarissa Clay along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carroll P. Horton and Katherine Ballinger; His wife of 52 years Delores Jayne Proffitt Horton, and sister Betty Jennings.
Services will be held on April 27, 2024, in the chapel of the Anders Rice Funeral Home at 11:00 am with visitation following.
A private family burial will take place at the North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
