HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 26 in Henderson County has prompted a partial shutdown of the roadway.
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that a “severe multi-vehicle” wreck had occurred on the Green River Bridge Wednesday morning, “resulting in the shutdown of I-26 Eastbound at Exit 54.”
As of 8:24 p.m., the North Carolina Department of Transportation‘s (NCDOT) website says the road is expected to reopen around 12 a.m.
Motorists must use the following detour:
- Take Exit 53, Upward Road.
- Follow Upward Road to US 176 East to US 25 South.
- Follow US 25 South to SC-11 North to re-access I-26.
“The interstate will be shut down for an extended period of time today and drivers should plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time,” the sheriff’s office said in their post.
