OLD FORT, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The 3rd annual Trails & Trains Festival returns to Old Fort, N.C. this weekend for a full schedule of free events.

Trails & Trains is held every year to celebrate the railroad history of the little mountain town.

Events will be held Thursday, June 5 through Saturday, June 6 all over Old Fort, ranging from outdoor exploration to history talks to film festivals.

Some of the events on the schedule include:

Henry the Hiker Scavenger Hunt – Pick up your scavenger hunt guides at Arrowhead Gallery & Studios or the Old Fort Visitors Center and turn them in on Saturday at the Vendors Village for a prize.

Sunrise Yoga Hike – 6:45 to 8:30 a.m., Thursday, June 5, Old Fort USFS Picnic Area, 2415 State Rd 1400 – Start Trails & Trains off with an “om” with Old Fort Yoga. There will be an all-ages meditative hike followed by a 45-minute yoga session.

Pump Track Jam – 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 5, Watershed, 655 Catawba River Road – Take your bikes and your family out to the pump track for an evening of good food and mountain biking fun. The new Watershed pump track will be open for bikers to test their mettle.

Creating a pollinator garden demo – 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, June 6, Arrowhead Gallery, 77 Catawba Ave. – Dana Owen, co-owner of Painter’s Greenhouse, will lead a hands-on presentation on developing your own pollinator garden. Leave with a list of her favorite plants and some seeds to get you started.

Rails & Rhythms Bluegrass Night – 6:30 to 10 p.m., Friday, June 6, 20 East Main St. – Pop a lawn chair for a free evening of bluegrass tunes from Zoe and Cloyd, Darren Nicholson and a special Blue Ridge All-Star Bluegrass Band featuring Buddy Melton, Shawn Lane, Danielle Bishop, Colby Laney, Jacob Burleson and other surprise guests.

Fonta Flora 5K Run – 8:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 7, Old Fort Town Hall, 38 Catawba Ave., $25 – Join the Fonta Flora fun run through a mostly-flat 5k course on the streets of downtown Old Fort. The race begins at Town Hall.
