ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —

Two people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries late Saturday night following a shooting in South Asheville, police said.

Asheville police were called around 11:05 p.m. Saturday, June 15, to a report of a gun being discharged in the 100 block of Shiloh Road, a press release stated.

According to the release, no suspects were on the scene when officers arrived, but the officers located 59 shell casings and one live round.

“While on scene investigating, officers were notified that two victims of gunshot wounds arrived at Mission Hospital,” the release states. The two victims reportedly were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Asheville Police Department spokesman Rick Rice said the investigation still was ongoing Monday, but that at least 6 different calibers of shell casings have been identified.

Police have asked anyone with information about illegal gun or drug activity to contact APD at (828) 252-1110, send an anonymous tip using the TIP2APD smartphone app or text TIP2APD to 847411.

There have been a spate of gunfire-related incidents reported across the city since late May, including:

  • About 11:39 p.m. on May 23, an occupied residence in the 950 block of W. Chapel Road was struck by gunfire and 23 shell casings from different caliber guns were found.
  • About 12:43 a.m. on May 25, two homes and two vehicles in the 300 block of Brooklyn Road were struck by gunfire and 46 shell casings were found.
  • About 1:04 a.m. on May 26, the occupied residence on Hibernia Street was struck and 17 shell casings were found.
  • Around 1:24 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, two homes were struck near the intersection of Livingston Street and Hibernia Street and two casings were found.
  • Now, around 11:05 p.m. Saturday, June 15, police responded to a report of a gun being discharged in the 100 block of Shiloh Road and two people later were treated at Mission Hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police say 59 casings were found.

“No connections have been established between the incidents of the last two months, but detectives are continuing their investigations,” Rice said.

Meanwhile, police also were investigating the city’s fourth homicide of 2024. About 6 a.m. Sunday, June 16, officers responded to an apartment in the 300 block of Long Shoals Road, where they found a man deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
