ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred late Tuesday night on Patton Avenue. The incident, which struck two pedestrians, left one dead and the other hospitalized.

APD officers responded to a report of the hit-and-run around 11:36 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8 near the intersection of Patton Avenue and Louisiana Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located Tyler Michael White, 37, near the center median. White succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His next-of-kin has been notified.

A second victim was located in a nearby parking lot and transported to Mission Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The preliminary APD investigation indicated that a vehicle, believed to be a silver Mazda SUV with front-end damage and a cracked windshield, traveling west on Patton Avenue swerved into the median, striking both pedestrians before fleeing the scene.
