ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The University of North Carolina Asheville has released conceptual images for several campus improvement projects, including building renovations, an ADA-accessible library entrance and new on-campus tennis courts.
“These projects reflect UNC Asheville’s continued commitment to investing in facilities that support student success, academic excellence, accessibility and community engagement,” said UNC Asheville Chancellor Kimberly van Noort in a press release. “Each investment strengthens our campus while ensuring that our students, faculty, staff and visitors benefit from spaces that meet the needs of today and the future.”
Lipinsky Hall renovation
The Lipinsky Hall renovation will include:
- State-of-the-art performance hall for concerts, lectures and other campus events
- Music technology labs
- Collaborative classrooms
- New rehearsal spaces and private practice rooms
- Student gathering areas
- Upgraded faculty offices
- Utility improvements
Funding for the project comes from the North Carolina General Assembly, the UNC System Board of Governors, UNC Asheville trust funds, donations, gifts and grants and an Office of State Budget and Management Flex Fund award.
Ramsey Library Entry Improvements project

The entryway to Ramsey Library will be receiving a major upgrade through a new ADA-accessible entrance and expansion of outdoor seating.
“The project will create a more welcoming and accessible entry to one of the University’s most heavily used academic buildings while also expanding outdoor seating, enhancing outdoor gathering space for campus events and further supporting UNC Asheville’s commitment to creating an inclusive campus environment,” UNC Asheville said.
Funding was allocated by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2023.
Campus Gateways Project

There will soon be new university signage erected at the W.T. Weaver Boulevard roundabout and the intersection of W.T. Boulevard and Broadway Street.
“The project is designed to improve wayfinding, create more visible and welcoming entrances and strengthen the University’s visual identity,” UNC Asheville said.

Funding for the project was granted by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2023 and expanded by the UNC System Board of Governors in 2026.
New tennis courts

Construction of a new on-campus tennis facility is currently on-going at UNC Asheville. The six-court facility will serve as a permanent home for men’s and women’s tennis at the university.
The project was announced in 2024 as part of the UNC Asheville Athletics ALL IN Comprehensive Campaign and is funded with support from the Asheville-Buncombe Tourism Product Development Fund, private donors, grants and corporate partners.
Impact
“As the projects progress, members of the campus community and visitors to campus may experience temporary impacts, including modified pedestrian routes, construction activity and parking changes,” UNC Asheville wrote. “While tree and shrub removal will take place in select areas, new landscaping will be incorporated where appropriate.”
