ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — “Nosferatu” is one of the most influential horror movies in the history of cinema, inspiring countless works of Gothic art and numerous remakes in the decades since its 1922 release.

In celebration of the latest adaptation of the film, Robert Eggers’ Christmas Day release, local cocktail bar The Crow & Quill is screening the silent original with a live piano performance.

The screening will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, in the sitting area of The Crow & Quill. A $5-10 donation is suggested as a tip for the pianist, Andrew Fletcher.

The film will be projected onto a screen beside the piano that Fletcher will be performing on.

Crow & Quill is a curio in the downtown Asheville bar scene, open from 5 p.m. to midnight in its dimly-lit, atmospheric parlors. While located off of North Lexington Avenue, a stretch of downtown Asheville known for its night life, Crow & Quill keeps its storefront lowkey: there is no signage on the outside to indicate its opulent interior other than an antique-appearing pair of street lamps.

“Nosferatu” is a stunning silent masterpiece. As the winter solstice approaches this Saturday, there is not a more appropriately dark a film than the original “symphony of horror.”

As far as the new “Nosferatu” goes, a review for the film will be posted in our 828reviewsNOW series just after its Christmas release on Friday, Dec. 27.
