ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A vehicle fire early Thursday forced the closure of part of Interstate 40 in Haywood County, officials said.
According to traffic incident reports, the eastbound lanes of I-40 near mile marker 28.5, close to the Great Smoky Mountains Expressway and Clyde, were closed following the fire.

The closure is about two miles east of Exit 27 for U.S. 74 (Great Smoky Mountains Expressway). Officials said the expected impact to traffic is high as crews respond to the scene.
The incident was reported around 5:53 a.m. Thursday. The roadway was expected to remain closed until about 10:53 a.m., according to the report.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and expect delays in the area.
