WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A woman is dead and a man is in custody after the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call on Thursday.
Officials said deputies performed a wellness check at 5 Ebernickle Lane in Weaverville on July 4 and when they arrived at the home, they found Diane Lofland deceased.

Following their initial investigation, the sheriff’s office charged 35-year-old Eric Scott Gentle with first-degree murder.
He was taken to the Buncombe County jail with no bond. Jail records showed his initial court date was scheduled for July 5.
In their news release, the sheriff’s office said there was no threat to the community and no more information would be released at this time.
