ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco was awarded the key to the city at an Orange Peel performance over the weekend.

DiFranco performed an 8 p.m. show on Saturday, March 15 at the Orange Peel.

That evening, DiFranco was introduced to the stage by Asheville city council members Bo Hess, Kim Roney, Sage Turner and Maggie Ullman and Amy Upham, executive director of Blue Ridge Pride.

“Tonight is more than just a concert. It’s a celebration of art, activism and the power of using your voice to make change,” Hess declared. “It is my deep honor to stand before you and recognize someone who has done just that for decades.”

“Ani DiFranco is more than a musician. She is a force of nature. From the moment she picked up her guitar and dared to tell her truth, she became a beacon for those who refuse to be silent,” Hess announced to the cheering crowd.
