ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of a 23-year-old woman accused of stabbing two other women during an altercation Sunday, June 2, on Atkinson Street in Asheville, police said.

The Asheville Police Department has asked for the public’s help locating Mercedes Margreit Morgan, 23, who is facing three charges in connection with the case, according to a press release.

According to the release, Morgan has been charged with:

* Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury

* Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury

* Carrying a concealed weapon.

TWO WOMEN STABBED DURING ALTERCATION AT ASHEVILLE APARTMENT

In a separate release on Monday, police said the incident was reported around 2:37 a.m. Sunday, when officers were called to Mission Hospital to investigate after two women who arrived with multiple stab wounds seeking medical treatment.

Asheville police spokesperson Rick Rice said an investigation determined that during an argument on Atkinson Street, the two women were “stabbed by another known assailant.” One of the victims reportedly was able to drive the two of them to the hospital.

Tuesday’s news release said, “Both victims are expected to recover.”

Police asked anyone with knowledge about Morgan’s whereabouts to contact APD at (828) 252-1110. People also can send anonymous tips using the TIP2APD smartphone app, or can text TIP2APD to 847411.

Morgan was described as a Black female standing 5-foot-2, weighing 174 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Police said her tattoos include “SHAWANA” on her right forearm, a rose on her right hand, “SISTERS” with a heart on her left wrist and a capricorn on her chest.

They said her last known address is in Morganton, but that she is known to frequent the Hillcrest Apartments.
