ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Rain, rain…is here to stay! At least for the next few days.
The North Carolina Emergency Management agency reports additional rainfall forecast through the end of the work week will increase the threat for isolated to scattered flash flooding. North Carolina is under a Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) or Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for excessive rainfall Wednesday through Friday.
The National Weather Service reports scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across Western North Carolina could lead to the threat of flooding through Friday. This creates the potential for excessive rainfall and isolated flooding, especially in locations where storms repeatedly move over the same area. A few storms could also become strong to severe with damaging wind gusts the main threat. The agency’s Excessive Rainfall Forecast shows areas of WNC are in an enhanced area for possible flash flooding through Friday.
The main threats during this hazardous weather will be from cloud-to-ground lightning and torrential rainfall. Excessive rainfall could occur in isolated locations, resulting in flash flooding of streams and urban areas. In addition, a few storms could briefly become strong to severe and produce isolated damaging wind gusts.
The agency said it received public reports of storm damage in the Leicester area on Tuesday, with multiple trees blown down — at least one on a house.
