ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A strong storm with has been reported in Asheville, according to the National Weather Service.
According to a Special Weather Statement issued by the NWS at 1:36 p.m., Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near downtown Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway and North Carolina Arboretum. The storm is moving east at 20 mph.
The alert said 50 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail are possible, the alert said.
The storm was expected to impact downtown Asheville, East Asheville, Arden, West Asheville, North Asheville, Black Mountain, Woodfin, Swannanoa, Fairview and Biltmore Forest.
