ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Special Weather Statement for the Hendersonville area.
The NWS said Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 10 miles south of Hendersonville, or 5 miles north of Pleasant Ridge State Park, moving southeast at 10 mph shortly before 3 p.m.
Weather officials said wind gusts up to 50 mph and half-inch hail were possible. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible.
Locations impacted include Tigerville, Pleasant Ridge State Park, Glassy Mountain, Tuxedo, North Saluda Reservoir, and Gowensville.
Minutes later, the NWS said Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 12 miles south of Benton, moving east at 15 mph.
Weather officials said wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail were possible.
Locations impacted include Ducktown, William L. Davenport Refuge, Copperhill, Big Frog Mountain, Hot House and Turtletown.
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building, weather officials said.
