ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The National Weather Service has issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” on Friday for a wide area of Western North Carolina, upstate South Carolina, northeast Georgia and piedmont North Carolina.

The outlook said that on Friday, “Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move across the area this afternoon and evening, with a few possibly strong to severe. The main hazards will be damaging winds, large hail, and cloud-to-ground lightning.”

The Asheville area got a preview Friday morning, with a brief but strong rain shower in parts of the city. The weather service said much of the day could be partly sunny, with a high temperature near 79 degrees, but showers and thunderstorms were likely in the afternoon, particularly between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. There were chances of rain in the evening.

Saturday was expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 68 degrees, and a chance of rain overnight to Sunday.

Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high temperature near 56 degrees, and rain showers likely between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Mostly sunny conditions are expected to return on Monday.
