AVL Fest

The second annual Asheville music extravaganza AVL Fest returns Aug. 1, bringing dozens of bands to 22 local venues across four days. From Aug. 1-4, artists will spread out among some of Asheville’s best music venues, including The Orange Peel, The Grey Eagle, Asheville Music Hall and many more locations.

Music at The Depot in Marshall

Discover and enjoy the vibrant local music scene of Madison County! Live shows happen every Friday night starting at 6:30 pm. at The Depot in Marshall, located at 282 South Main Street. Three local bands perform one-hour sets. The event also offers up dancing, cake walks, 50-50 tickets, refreshments for sale and an opportunity to fellowship with the community. Even better? There’s no admission fee.

Mountain Dance and Folk Festival 2024

The Mountain Dance and Folk Festival is taking place Aug. 1-3 at Warren Wilson College, featuring songs and dances that echo centuries of Scottish, English, Irish, Cherokee and African heritage found in the Smokies.

French Broad River Cleanup

Looking to get outdoors and do some good? Another French Broad River Cleanup event is taking place on Saturday, Aug. 3, starting at 10 a.m. in Asheville. Participants will boat down the river, cleaning up trash along the way. Prizes are also on the table!

Uncommon Market Summer Extravaganza

Asheville’s largest curated pop-up market for antiques, art, vintage decor, jewelry and beyond is hosting a weekend Summer Extravaganza! From Aug. 3-4 at the Mission Health/A-B Tech Conference Center, this free event — with free parking — will also feature axe throwing and food trucks.

Sunday Afternoon Jam at the Mountain Gateway Museum

Get back to your mountain roots with this Sunday afternoon jam session at Old Fort’s Mountain Gateway Museum.

From 2-4 p.m. on Aug. 4, visitors can play, sing along, or just listen. A core group of musicians meets for an informal jam on the porch of the main building where visitors are welcome to join the jam. On cooler, wetter days the jam moves inside. Bluegrass, old time string band, and gospel music is played and enjoyed year round. This site preserves the spirit and interprets the lives of 18th Century Pioneers in western North Carolina.
