ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) – Time never stops in Asheville and neither do the events. With temperatures warming slightly this weekend, expect the town to be lively. Get out of the house to one of these events.
Here are some of the experiences available for Jan. 24-26 on the 828newsNOW Events website.
Annual Asheville Hot Chocolate Races
This weekend marks the return of a more than 15-year-old tradition in Asheville, the winter glory of the Hot Chocolate Races. Since 2008, races for all ages have been offered to runners of all caliber on the French Broad River. Due to Tropical Storm Helene, part of the runway was damaged preventing the half marathon from proceeding this year, although the 100 yard Marshmallow Dash, 1k Kids Hill Climb, 5k and the original 10k are set to return this year unphased by the disaster.
Architectural Drawings Lecture
The Asheville Art Museum is presenting an informational event on the architectural drawings of Richard Sharp Smith and Douglas Ellington, two of the men most responsible for Asheville’s skyline. The lecture is slated to include “a behind-the-scenes viewing of materials from the Ellington and Smith collections,” along with access to the online database of the architect’s drawings. The event is schedule for 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Asheville Art Museum.
