ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — For Asheville residents unable to attend the Asheville City Council meeting this evening, 828newsNOW has summarized what is on the agenda for the city government.

The Asheville City Council will convene at 5 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, April 8 at Asheville City Hall, 70 Court Plaza.

Resolutions on the agenda for the council to enact or reject include:

  • A resolution to partner with the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management for all disaster assistance funds – including FEMA funding – provided by or through the state government in response to Hurricane Helene
  • A resolution authorizing the city manager to begin a $743,000 contract with Appalachian Sitework Inc. for improvements and development of sidewalks on Patton Avenue
  • A resolution approving the appointment of the proposed slate of members for the Asheville Downtown Improvement District board, the entity behind the controversial Business Improvement District approved in June 2024
  • A resolution authorizing the submission of an action plan to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, which has allocated $225 million to the city of Asheville pending the plan’s submission

The meeting will also a presentation on replacing a sewerage pump station and a public hearing on a proposed resolution to permanently close an unopened right-of-way connected to Morningside Drive between Coventry Circle and Brevard Road.
