BREVARD, N.C. (828newsNOW) —
They hide in the tree tops part of the year, but Brevard’s most famous residents are in the spotlight during White Squirrel Weekend events downtown, continuing through Sunday.
Saturday’s festivities kicked off with the White Squirrel 5k sponsored by the Rotary Club of Brevard and included a busy street festival, auto show, hula hoop dance and more.
Events continue on Sunday, May 26, with the downtown street festival starting at 10 a.m., a beer garden and countless opportunities to take pictures with some of the biggest white squirrels you’ve ever seen.
The City of Brevard’s Memorial Day event takes place at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27, on the front lawn of the Transylvania County Courthouse on East Main Street.
Co-hosted by The American Legion and Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas, it pays tribute to those who have given their lives in service of the country. Ceremonies will include presentation of the colors, local speakers, a wreath-laying ceremony, a recognition of Gold Star families and a moment of silence.
