SWANNANOA, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Firefighters had a wildfire burning off Lytle Cove Road about 70 percent contained by early Friday morning, according to Swannanoa Fire & Rescue.
Crews reported at 7 a.m. that the fire had burned approximately 4.5 acres. Firefighters were conducting burnout operations to help secure containment lines. Officials said no structures were threatened and no evacuations were necessary, though residents were urged to remain alert.
The fire was first reported overnight, with an update around 2:51 a.m. indicating the blaze was about 50 percent contained at that time. Fire crews continued working through the night to slow the spread.
Officials said the wildfire was located on a mountain above the Ingles warehouse in Swannanoa. Fire lines were in place, and officials expected the fire to continue to die down over the next 24 hours.
Swannanoa Fire & Rescue said crews would remain on scene monitoring conditions and strengthening containment lines.
