ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the death of Geneva Daniels, 57, who was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital on Saturday, April 19.

Medical treatment for Daniels began shortly before 6 a.m. She had been booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on April 18 on a charge of possessing methamphetamine.

The sheriff’s office said it had notified Daniels’ next of kin, the State Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney’s Office. The agency is following all protocols related to in-custody deaths.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the family of Geneva Daniels,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
