MARION, N.C. (828newsNOW) — As spring weather gets warmer and warmer, for many families, finding ways to get outside is the name of the weekend game.
This Saturday, the YMCA has a suggestion.
Healthy Kids Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 26 at the Corpening Memorial YMCA, 348 Grace Corpening Drive.
The free, annual event encourages getting outside with family-friendly games, healthy cooking activities, arts and crafts, prizes and engagement with more than 25 different community vendors at the YMCA of Western North Carolina location.
Healthy Kids Day is nationally sponsored by the Peanuts cartoon series, encouraging kids to play outside like Snoopy or kick a football a little better than Charlie Brown.

“The Y hopes to use the day to get more kids moving and learning, creating healthy habits they can continue while they’re away from the classroom,” the YMCA of WNC wrote on their website. “When kids are out of school, they can face hurdles that prevent them from reaching their full potential. Research shows that without access to out-of-school learning activities, kids fall behind academically.”
Healthy Kids Day will go on rain or shine. For more information, visit www.ymcawnc.org/healthykidsday.
