ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The winner of Best Documentary at the 97th Academy Awards was “No Other Land,” a documentary made by a collective of Palestinian and Israeli activists about the destruction of a Palestinian community on the West Bank.
The film, which was listed as one of 828newsNOW’s Best Movies of 2024, will be shown at a free screening and facilitated discussion held from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 28 at the YMI Cultural Center, 39 S. Market St.
The screening was organized by The People’s Place, an Asheville anti-racist activist group and multicultural community organization.
During the discussion, “we’ll process what we’ve seen and the feelings it brings up and learn more about how we can support the work of this collective and the people they are defending,” The People’s Place wrote on their website.
The People’s Place operates a gift shop and mini-museum with rotating local, regional and national exhibits about people-based movements from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, at 58 Broadway St. in downtown Asheville.
