BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Work is underway on a plan to restore a 6.6-mile stretch of the Middle Swannanoa River, from the outskirts of Black Mountain west to Warren Wilson College.

The project, funded by The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, is a collaboration between RiverLink, Wildlands Engineering Inc. and Anchor QEA. Teams are mapping streambank damage along the river corridor to develop a comprehensive restoration plan.

Organizers said the plan will serve as a tool to secure funding for future on-the-ground improvements. Residents living along the targeted stretch of river who experienced streambank erosion during Hurricane Helene are encouraged to complete a survey to help identify impacted areas and potentially qualify for future grant support.
