When it comes to rescue and relief operations, many of those efforts are coming from above. Two groups in particular doing some of the heavy lifting are National Guard units and Texas-based Operation Airdrop.

Buncombe County officials reported more than 5,566 calls to 911 between Thursday and Sunday morning.
City and county services are in disarray as floodwaters continue to flow through the area.
Water and food have been ordered and are expected in the area soon
Buncombe County Schools will remain closed from Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4, following significant damage caused by Hurricane Helene. School officials are coordinating with local emergency services to ensure the safety of students and staff.
NOAA predicts that the French Broad River and the Swannanoa Rivers will continue to recede throughout the week.
