ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The holiday week could be a wet one.

According to the National Weather Service, high pressure will persist over the Atlantic Southeastern States through Monday. A passing cold front will bring a chance for brief showers early Tuesday, followed by dry weather Wednesday. A second front will bring more widespread rain for Thanksgiving Day followed by much colder temperatures for the end of the week and through the weekend.

National Weather Service records show 60.88 inches of precipitation in Asheville since Jan. 1 — 16.26 inches more than normal.

The forecast for the week, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Monday: Sunny with a high near 67. Calm wind becoming west-southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon.
  • Monday night: Mostly cloudy with a low around 46. South-southeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
  • Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny with a high near 58. North-northwest wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
  • Tuesday night: Partly cloudy with a low around 32. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • Wednesday: Partly sunny with a high near 60.
  • Wednesday night: A 50 percent chance of showers after 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy with a low around 44.
  • Thanksgiving Day: Showers likely, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
  • Thursday night: A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy with a low around 33.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny with a high near 42.
